Introduction
The Extra Booster Memorial Collection (EB01) is a small but very important mini-set scheduled to be released in the US on May 3, 2024. This set includes support for various archetypes including Baroque Works, Dressrosa, Impel Down, Wano Country, and more. EB01 stands out due to strong flexible cards that have become staples in the Japanese competitive scene. In this blog, we will go over the 10 most valuable cards in the set.
1 . Manga Chopper
As is tradition with any One Piece TCG booster set, EB01 includes a special manga illustration card. This set’s card is a fan favorite Tony Tony Chopper. Although this card is not the most competitive-worthy card, Chopper is such a loved character in the community that you can expect Chopper lovers out there to dig into their pockets to add this manga card to their collection.
2. Mr. 2 Bon Clay
Bandai loves Nami. So much so that in every set except OP04, there has been a special art version of her. Technically, EB01 has no Nami card, this is Bon Clay. But Bandai still found a way to include a Nami art in this set. I have to admit, Bandai knows how to please their player base. Still, regardless of the obvious fan service of this card, Bon Clay is a staple in every way that counts. This card lets you ramp, can copy the base attack of any character on your opponent’s side, and isn’t leader-locked. All of this has made Mr. 2 a staple for almost any purple deck.
3. Charlotte Flampe
Flampe has become a staple for many yellow decks in Japan, especially in Black Yellow Luffy and Enel decks. She gives you options for opening plays in the early game for extra draw power plus she is a 2k counter. That flexibility along with her AA art makes this card truly valuable in EB01
4. T Bone
T Bone is the ultimate Vergo replacement for black decks that are running navy build with Brannew, Rebecca, and Moria combo. Previously, Vergo was put in decks because it was a 2k counter with a cost of five. This meant that if you played Rebecca, you would be able to grab Vergo from the trash using Rebecca’s ability. Vergo was also searchable with Brannew’s ability. With T Bone you can still do everything just as with Vergo but you also have the option to KO a two-cost or less character. That flexibility of T Bone’s ability, counter, and navy archetype makes T Bone a staple in navy engine decks.
5. Kid and Killer
Kid and Killer is the ultimate offensive card for RP Law decks. If the Japanese meta is any indicator, RP Law is close to if not an S-ranked deck. In the late of of RP Law matches, once the opponent is at 2 life or less, Kid and Killer become a 7K rush. The deadly part is that the 4 cost of this card makes him a great target for Law’s ability to play him. He is a very sneaky and deadly card to play. Kid and Killer is staple in the RP Law and perhaps in other red decks as well.
6. Cavendish
Cavendish, a green supernova 5-cost card, everything Red Green Law likes to see in a card. In Japan, the introduction of Cavendish revived Red Green Law decks and I expect it will do the same in the West. Especially considering that Sakazuki, which is Law’s worst matchup, will be banned one month after the release of EB01. Considering all of that I can expect Cavendish to be one of the top 10 most valuable cards in the set.
7. Miss Wednesday
Now we are getting into more niche cards but that will still probably have worth in this set. Miss Wednesday is exactly one of those cards. This card is specifically made for a Baroque Works leader, so it’s not as flexible as its counterpart Mr. 2. That being said, it is a very good card and a staple for a Purple Yellow Croc deck. Not to mention that the card features a special art of a beloved character, Vivi. For that reason, this card will be one of EB01’s chase cards.
8. Shirahoshi
Similar to Miss Wednesday, Shirahoshi is a loved character and the fact that EB01 features a special art of this card means it holds a spot as one of the most valuable cards in the set. But art aside, Shirahoshi’s effect is a strong one for a blocker and fits the yellow theme perfectly as it has the potential to heal you. Her effect will make opponents think twice about KO her with an ability, similar to Kikonojo. Although she is a perfect target for cards that bottom deck.
9. Viola
Now that I look at this set, EB01 has a lot of good Waifu cards with alternate arts being released and Viola is no exception. While Viola’s ability is nice, often many yellow decks don’t have the space for her. That doesn’t mean that she is useless. There are niche yellow decks that can make use of her abilities like Black Yellow Luffy. I still think she will be a chase card just for the fact that its Viola and the Waifu Tax will probably make her a valuable card in the set.
10. Brook
The straw hat musician Brook, with an interesting ability that has the potential of being included in many black decks. I have seen some Sakazuki lists and Moria lists that run a copy of Brook. This card has a two-in-one ability to reduce the cost of a card and KO a card, which makes this card a very interesting tech choice. I have seen Brook be a menace in some Garp decklists as well. Brooks abilities and also being a part of the Straw Hat crew makes me believe that he will be one of the most valuable cards in the set.
Honorable Mentions
Hiyori is another Waifu special art card that deserves a mention. She is a great card to play out the new 5-cost Izo or the 5-cost Monosuke. I have seen some Yamato decks running Hiyori but not too many. Regardless Hiyori is a great-looking card and the fact that the alternate art includes Zoro in the background will probably mean a lot of collectors will want their hands on this one.
Some very evil people in the world want to see a metagame with Iceberg on top. Those same people will consider Khalifa an auto include in the deck with four copies. She is that good in a water 7 deck. Plus, people love Khalifa in general. That makes this card a worthy mention for the list.
